Bye, Bye, Balloon

Oh my goodness. I failed my son today. He was so excited to earn the balloon he received today at the dentist for being a great patient! He did so great! He even got the color he was hoping for... green. Everything was fabulous until mama, aka me, tried to carry one to many things into the house at one time. When I dropped everything at the door to unlock it, I felt it something drifting away. Of course little man spotted it right away, and with a very distressed look on his face he said, "Mama go get it". The tears and sobs that followed when he realized the fate of his balloon made me feel like a dog. Bless him. He had earned that balloon and now as he said, "it's with the birds". So off we went to the store to replace it with 2 new wonderful balloons, which by the way made it into the house and are safe in his room.

Swim, Bike, Run - YIKES!

My sis and bro in law are headed to Canada to do an ironman. It will be her 1st and his 4th. The thought of just completing the training for this event is amazing to me in and of itself. Let's see it's something like a 2.4 mile swim, a 100 and something bike, and to wrap things all up a 26 mile run. He's hoping to finish in around 10-11 hours and she's hoping to finish in around 13-14 hours. I'm thinking when do you get to stop for snacks, lunch and rest time. Anyway more power to them! I know they'll do great!

The Farmer's Market

I love going to the farmer's market. I love all the fresh fruit and veggies, the great selection and prices. It's getting later in the summer so some of my favorites are drying up, but I bought something today I wouldn't normally: butternut and acorn squash. Can't wait to try them. We also got some purple hull peas - yummy, okra, green tomatoes, and italian green beans. But, the clincher was a huge basket of ripe-right-now peaches. We spent the day making freezer peach jam - yummy! My other favorite thing we made today was roasted tomatoes. Mix olive oil, chopped garlic, fresh thyme and tomato slices on baking sheet. Roast for 1.5 hrs. on 350 - mmmmm the whole house smelled like a pizza parlor!

Mama.. you fixed my knee

Yesterday evening was my chance to demonstrate my mommy skills to my toddler and his first opportunity to really be able to appreciate it. After riding his big wheel on black top he inevitably fell and scraped his knee. After coming inside to take a bath he was terrified to let me even look at it, let alone touch it. I promised I would be gentle and that it might hurt a little, but I would be very careful. I used a small washcloth and gently washed away the specks of dirt and then blew on it to take away the sting. He was actually surprised that it didn't hurt and when I applied that antibiotic lotion he said, "Mama, you fixed my knee!"

Family

Brothers, sisters, inlaws, cousins, mommy's, daddy's, little babies, and the like gathered this weekend for a fun family time. There was pool, air hockey, phase 10, fact or crap, and lots of yummy treats. Mostly though, there smiles and memories.

Baby Blankets, Christmas Stockings, and maybe some Curtains

Yes, I got a sewing machine for Christmas! I was sick of paying $8.00 for a hem every time I needed alterations done, so I started thinking I could do it myself. My sweet hubbie surprised me with the gift and I've been a sewing fool ever since. Although, I do have to say it's a bit harder than it looks. I've made 2 baby blankets (with binding), 2 Christmas stockings, and am just beginning to plan what I'd like my curtains to look like. Dreaming is the fun part!

Messy Desk

I have a messy desk
with bills and mail stacked high
My organization skills are lacking
and I can't understand why!

Could it be I'm not attentive
to the things that I should be
Of course it is - I'm writing this blog
Maybe setting aside time is the key!

Aren't I smart?!

Speaking out of boths sides...

You know, I don't understand it. Everyone...tv talk shows, news programs, etc., is on the nutrition kick. Telling us all what we should and shouldn't be eating. Making recommendations for exercise programs, and how much water to drink (although they are back pedaling on this now). What erks me is on those same shows they have cooking segments with food that is on the don't eat list. Of course they qualify by saying "everything is fine in moderation". Well guess what folks it looks like America has got a problem with moderation. Why not show more of the nutritious ways to prepare or order food. And what about the advertising?! It's all yummy bad for you junk.

ok... I' done ranting.

Ugh!

Ok. Working out sucks. Yes, I know I'm whining. But I dislike it... strongly. I did the step class tonight. It's been oh so long since I've done a step class. I did pretty good till we got down on the mats to do tummy crunches. I hate crunches. Does it count if when I bend down to tie my shoes my tummy crunches on its own?

Anywho. I hate it, but I went anyway.

No Space Available

So I head off to the Y this morning, and would you believe there's not one parking space available when I got there. Interesting. This has never happened to me before. I can't figure it out... Oh wait - it's New Years. Everybody's resolution is ...loose weight. I waited for a few moments and then finally a spot came open. The cardio room was packed. It was great working out with a room full of people instead of just a few here or there. I hope I still have trouble finding a parking spot in March. I hope I'm still there with everybody else trying to reach our goals. I hope!

A Beast?

Just a couple of weeks ago a tiger was in the news for mauling a zoo visitor and attacking two others. While my heart goes out to the families of the victims I couldn't help but notice how the correspondents reported how the 300+pound beast attacked. The number 300 stuck in my brain, because it's not to far off from the number I see when I step on the scales. The thought of being close to the same weight as a monstrous attacking beast is ..well unnerving! So tomorrow as I head to the gym and leave my twinkie behind I hope no unsuspecting sole ticks me off and suffers the wrath of this___pound beast.

Potty Traning

So I've half heartedly started potty training. Only because my 2 year old has started showing interest. We've been using food coloring in the toilet for target practice. He likes it so much he cries when I take him off the potty, even after he's gone! He also likes to aim at my bath dots. I guess in a few weeks I may get serious and put some big boy pants on him. We'll see.
